OBJECTIVE

To build research capacity via short and long-term training programmes to establish an integrated prevention and control scheme for mycotoxin and other food contaminants through the entire value food chain from farm to fork.

PHILOSOPHY

To produce food safety specialists, toxicologists, and molecular biologists through full-time Postgraduate ( MTech and PhD) programmes to encourage cross-border collaboration thereby providing relevant human and material resources.

Applications for admission are invited from suitably qualified candidates into the
Postgraduate programmes of the Africa Centre of Excellence for Mycotoxin and Food
Safety, Federal University of Technology, Minaa.
The Postgraduate Programmes of the Centre are:
M. Tech/Ph. D Food Safety
M. Tech/Ph. D Toxicology
M. Tech/Ph.D Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
1.0 M. Tech PROGRAMME

Candidates for admission to the M. Tech programmes of the Africa Centre of Excellence for Mycotoxin and Food Safety shall possess the following requirements:


(a) Five ‘0’ level credit passes in NECO/WAEC/NABTEB or its equivalent for international students must include English/French, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics at not more than two (2) sittings.
(b)National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Certificate or Exemption Certificate (Nigerians only).
(c) Academic Transcripts.
(d)At least a Second Class Lower Honour Degree (50% Cumulative Score) or its equivalent for foreign candidates.
(e) A recognized PGD with a minimum of Lower Credit (CGPA of 2.50) in relevant fields
with at least one year post-qualification experience may be considered.
(f) Three referees, one of whom must be his/her supervisor or an academic advisor must be provided.
(g)A qualifying examination may be necessary.

1.1 First-degree graduates with Masters from the following areas: Food Safety, Food Toxicology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics, Microbiology, Veterinary Medicine, Bachelor of Medicine & Surgery, Pharmacy, Chemistry, Food
Science, Animal Science, Crop Science and Plant Pathology are qualified to apply for the
M. Tech programme in Food Safety, Molecular Biology & Bioinformatics and Toxicology.

1.2 Candidates from non-English speaking countries (Francophone countries are to undergo proficiency training in English Language (maximum of six months). The waiting period for the training is not counted as part of the candidate’s academic programme duration.


2.0 PhD PROGRAMME
Candidates for admission to the PhD programme of the Africa Centre of Excellence for Mycotoxin and Food Safety shall have the following requirements:
(a) Five ‘0’ level credit passes in NECO/WAEC/NABTEB or its equivalent for
International students which must include English/French, Mathematics, Chemistry,
Biology and Physics at not more than two (2) sittings.
(b)Nigerian applicants must have a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Certificate or Exemption certificate.
(c) Academic Transcripts.
(d)Must be Master’s Degree graduates as stated in section 1.1 and must have attained an
average performance of ’13’ grade or weighted average of 60% or a minimum CGPA of 3.50
(e) Research proposals are to be uploaded on the application platform.
(f) Three referees, one of whom must be his/her supervisor or an academic advisor must be provided.
2.1. Candidates without relevant background in Food Safety, Molecular Biology &
Bioinformatics or Toxicology will be required to audit core courses from the Masters
programme on assessment of their Academic transcripts by the Academic Board of the Centre.


2.2. Admission shall strictly be in line with the guidelines of Postgraduate School, Federal University of Technology, Minna.
2.3. Admission into the PhD programme shall be TWICE in a year, beginning of a new
Academic Session and commencement of the second semester of every Academic session.

METHODS OF APPLICATION
Interested candidates are to log on to the Centre’s website https://acemfs.futminna.edu.ng through the University website www.futminna.edu.ng for the online application form and uploading of relevant credentials.


DURATION OF SALE OF APPLICATION FORMS
Purchase and submission of admission form commences on the 15th of November, 2021 and closes on the 15th of December, 2021. Within this period, the website will be opened for the purchase of admission forms.

Note:
The last date for the submission of the admission form is midnight of 15th December 2021. Funded scholarships for MTech and PhD programmes will be made available for candidates who scale through the competitive screening exercise by the Academic Board
of the Centre.
The admission form costs N20,000 and this amount should be paid to the Centre’s account.
