Professor Jonathan Yisa was born and raised in Pati Shabakolo in Niger State, Nigeria. He earned a B.Sc.degree in Chemistry from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (1988), M.Tech. Degree in Analytical Chemistry from The Federal University of Technology, Minna (1999), and PhD degree in Chemistry from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (2004).
Prof. Yisa after completed the mandatory National Youth Service in 1989 began his academic career with the Niger State College of Education, Minna the same year. In 1990, he joined the service of The Federal Polytechnic, Bida, lecturing in the Department of Science Laboratory Technology (1990-2007). He later transferred his service to Federal University of Technology, Minna as a senior lecturer in the Department of Chemistry in 2007, where he currently holds the rank of Professor of Chemistry.
Maintaining an active research interest, Professor Yisa’s research interests focus on: Development and application of analytical techniques to environmental studies; Chemical studies of local fruits, vegetables and indigenous plants as basis for their further utilization; Assessment and remediation of Industrial and Agricultural Wastes and analysis of industrial products to ensure conformity with standards.
He has conducted externally-funded research, in collaboration with undergraduates and Postgraduates at the Federal University of Technology, Minna and publishes regularly with his research students in reputable journals. The research findings have been regularly presented at national and in some International Conferences.
He has served the Federal University of Technology, Minna in several key capacities where his impacts were tremendously felt: Member, Strategic Planning Committee (2009); SIWES Coordinator for School of Science and Science Education (2008 – 2010); Head, Department of Chemistry (2010 – 2013); Member of Professional and Academic Board of CPES ( 2010 – 2013); Member of University Senate 2010 – Date; Member, Joint Council/Senate Committee (2015); Chairman, Committee to investigate the case of illegal mining in the main Campus of Federal University of Technology, Minna (2015); University Industrial Liaison Officer/SIWES Coordinator (2018); Dean, School of Physical Sciences (2019); Industrial Liaison Officer. African Centre of Excellence (ACE) for Mycotoxin amongst others.
Professionally, He is a fellow of the Chemical Society of Nigeria (FCSN), Member of the Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria MICCON and Chairman of the Chemical Society of Nigeria, Niger State Chapter in Nigeria.
He enjoys reading, writing and sports - particularly soccer.
