Joined the services of Federal University of Technology, Minna, Nigeria as Lecturer II and has risen to the rank of Associate Professor. She has Doctor of Philosophy from University of Ilorin. Shittu has attended several training programmes both national and international in some recent advanced technology such as Nanotechnology, Bioinformatics, Molecular biology and Biotechnology in order to meet the advancement in her research area of parasitology biochemistry. Her research focus is on Nanomedicine which involve synthesis of nanoparticles with medical application, Nanopharmaceuticals, Nanodrug modelling, Nanobiosensors and diagnosis and Nanovaccine, Her research unit has been supported by awards, TETfund Institutional Based Research Grant, 2014 (Research area: Nanotechnology) and Two grant (Research area: Nanotechnology/drug delivery) 2015. She has also received Fulbright fellowship award.
She has involve in capacity building in field of Nanotechnology and Bioinformatics in workshops including Capacity building workshop in bioinformatics (University of Ilorin, Nigeria), Nigerian Young Academy Workshop on Bioinformatics (Federal University of Technology). She led her team to win 3rd Prize Award for Research and Development in Life Science at the 6th Nigerian Universities Research and Development Fair NURESDEF, 2016. She has published in learned national and international journals and supervised undergraduate and post graduate students. She is presently the Head of Department, Biochemistry, and Molecular biology and Bioinformatics research theme leader for Africa Centre of Excellence for Mycotoxins and Food Safety, Federal University of Technology, Minna, Nigeria.
