Dr John Yisa Adama

dr johnA Veterinarian and an Associate professor of Animal production and Health who has taught for over 11 years in the university. Born on the 4th of January, 1965 and obtained a DVM degree in 1990 and PhD in Animal parasitology in 2013 from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria . My area of specialization is Animal parasitology with a bias towards small ruminants. Among the courses taught are Anatomy and physiology of farm animals, Animal Health and Diseases, Milk Microbiology, Reproductive Physiology, Animal Products and Marketing at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

My areas of interest in research are the effect of parasites and nutrition on reproduction and physiological parameters. This interest was further enhanced through funding of my PhD programme by the National Animal Production Research Institute, A.B.U, Zaria, conducted under Animal reproduction unit of the institute. Also conducted Researches on reproductive wastages in ruminants in Niger State abattoirs. Other areas of research focus include effect of plant extracts as alternative to synthetic drugs on parasite treatments, some reproductive indices and physiological parameters in domestic animals. I have worked extensively also on the effect of alternative feed trials and plant extracts on serum chemistry and haematology of animals. I have supervised several students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Currently, have supervised 9 MTech students and graduated one PhD with five still awaiting graduation at different levels. At the university level, I have participated in six committee levels set up by the university management.

A registered veterinary surgeon with Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN), a member of Nigerian Society of Animal Production (NSAP), a member of Biotechnology Society of Nigeria (BSN). I have participated at various committee levels in the university and at a time was a chairman of christian community in the university. I have published in several journals of repute both nationally and internationally. Married to Leah Adama and blessed with four children (Two boys and two girls).
