The groundbreaking for the construction of the Africa Center of Excellence for Mycotoxin and Food Safety, Federal University of Technology Minna has been performed with high expectations to be the pride of the African continent ready to carry out researches that will address food-related diseases.
Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Abdullahi Bala who performed the groundbreaking ceremony described the center as an iconic project that when completed will expand the horizon of the university for international learning opportunities.
The Africa Center of Excellence for Mycotoxin and Food Safety FUTMinna was established in 2019 with the mandate to carry out research and develop the capacity of students in the area of food safety and molecular bioinformatics
For students and researchers who cut across the African Continent to effectively study and carry out accurate research, there is the need to provide an enabling environment necessary for the internationalization of courses.
This is to be made possible with the construction of the center expected to be built on six hectares of land within the Main Campus, Gidan Kwano of the Federal University of Technology Minna.
Vice Chancellor FUT Minna, Professor Abdullahi Bala, and the Center Leader, Professor Hussaini Anthony Makun said with the university center currently running Masters’s and Doctorate Degrees in food safety, molecular biology, and bioinformatics, as well as Masters’s and Doctorate degrees in Toxicology the center, is intended to ensure adequate knowledge in new pathogens and chemicals that go into the human body via adulterated foods with a view to making researches that will reveal the harmful substances to bring about prevention and control of harmful food substance.
The edifice comprising two suspended floors is designed to have all necessary spaces to comfortably accommodate laboratories, classrooms, and seminar rooms as well as administrative offices that will measure up with international standards.
